Martin  Galvin
Born: Around 1827     Kilrush, Ireland
Died:

I believe he is buried in St’ Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Assumption, Illinois with Bridget. The Assumption Catholic church records were lost prior to 1900. I’m not sure what year Martin was born but have roughly calculated around 1827 using ages from the 1880 census records. He married Bridget McTigue, also from Ireland, and I calculate her birth somewhere around 1835. I don't know what year they came to America or if they were married before or after. The first place I can show them in America is Green County, Carrollton, Illinois in 1859. Their first child, Michael, was born 1859 and his obituary shows he was born in Carrollton, Illinois. The 1860 census shows Martin, Bridget and Michael in Carrollton in 1860. The 1900 census shows their son Joseph P was born in Missouri in 1869. I have no other documentation showing them in Missouri. The 1880 census shows martin and Bridget in Christian county, village of Assumption, Illinois. The 1880 census shows Martin age 53 (farmer), Bridget age 45 (keeping house), Michael age 20, William age 19, Martin age 15, Patrick age 14, Joseph age 10, Stephen age 7 and Anna age 5. The 1900 census shows Bridget living alone in Assumption which indicates Martin died prior to 1900. Records from the Assumption Catholic church tell us Bridget died December 31, 1906 at age 70 and was buried in the church cemetery. I have not found a grave stone for her.
