The class of 1938 was the first to graduate from the new building constructed by the Herrick School
district in conjunction with the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.).
The cost of $46.000 was shared equally between the district and the W.P.A.
The 98' x 55' building was occupied jointly by the 185 pupils enrolled in the elementary and high school.
In 1951, new construction was added to the right side of the building providing
an assembly room, classrooms, gymnasium, and a basement cafeteria.
